The July 2017 DesignBuffalo Event

Topic: Scale
Thursday, July 13, 2017 6:30pm

Sponsored by DesignBuffalo, hosted by Sweet_ness 7

At Sweet_ness 7, 220 Grant Street, Buffalo.

Join DesignBuffalo, a partnership among members of the community (citizens, architects, lawyers, micro developers) and the UB School of Architecture + Planning, for a fun, lively, and vital discussion of scale. Free of charge.

Presenter: Kisha Patterson, Architect

Buildings are tasked with responding to a variety of scales related to use and context. The recent adoption of the Green Code in Buffalo has drawn attention to aspects of scale in new development.

Observers are raising questions of “Too big?”, “Too small?”, “Out of synch?”

Learn and share. Join DesignBuffalo for a comprehensive discussion of this current issue.

Please note: The focus of the discussion will be design, not responses to policy, politics or procedure. Specific projects will be discussed as examples of scale in design, hopefully leading to a better understanding of principles.

Goals of DesignBuffalo events:

  • Showcase what can be done in partnership across disciplines and stakeholders
  • Present high-quality information and audience engagement on good design
  • Emphasize that good design includes considerations of community health, equity & accessibility
  • De-emphasize the usual Buffalo stance of blame/lamenting
  • Emphasize the message of recognizing and organizing to demand good design
  • Receive suggestions for further such events

Speakers: Omar Khan, Erkin Özay and Gregory Delaney of UB’s School of Architecture + Planning.

These speakers will lead off, briefly. An inclusive and wide-ranging discussion will follow.
